Trainee Foundry / Production Technician

Our client is a leading international manufacturer of precision engineered components and systems for tolerance critical applications.

The group in Sheffield is a leading supplier of Stainless & Heat resisting Centrifugal Castings to the aerospace, Industrial Gas Turbine and process markets.

The trainees will report to the Technical Manager and will be inducted into all aspects of foundry technology including metallurgy & materials, methoding, process control, heat treatment, dimensional inspection, non-destructive testing and quality control.

After an initial induction of one month spending short periods in all areas, the trainee will be assigned to the members of the Technical Department or Production Managers for 2-3 month spells in the following activities:

Quality assurance and product certification
Foundry Processes (casting & moulding)
Quantovac and materials
Dimensional Inspection & NDT
Heat Treatment
CAD & Machining
Methoding & tooling
Plant engineering & maintenance
Lean manufacturing

On completion of the above training programme, approximately two years, the trainee will be assessed for his/her role in the business and then spend a further year training to take up full responsibilities.

Technical Knowledge & Skills

Candidates for this position will have A-level science qualifications or equivalent, be computer literate and have an enquiring mind.

They will be expected to further their academic knowledge during the training period through a combination of day release, evening classes & targeted courses.

Located in Sheffield, this role is commutable from areas such as Rotherham, Chesterfield, Mansfield, Macclesfield, Doncaster, Barnsley, Huddersfield and Wakefield.
